YOGA MATS - 2
Yoga mats come in different sizes and shapes and also there are several types of yoga mats that one can choose from based on the type of exercise and the comfort level preferred by the user. Sticky mats are one of these types which are used for vigorous training and for difficult poses of yoga. They provide the required grip and help the users not to slip when they are in practice. The choice of sticky mats are very important as any mistakes can lead to moderate injuries and spinal problems as the whole body is being balanced by the spine and the force is taken by the palm. Finger tips are used to hold a grip of the mats. Hugger Mugger Company’s “tapas mat” was the first sticky mats manufactured.
This happened when a yoga teacher, Angela Farmer had a difficulty of her hands slipping under her when she is doing yoga. She came up with this idea of sticky mats and her father implemented it. When choosing a sticky mat few of the things should be kept in mind. The exercise types in the yoga such as Ashtanga Yoga which is mostly preferred by the athletes would require at least four millimeter of thickness of the sticky mats. Not just the type of poses that you are planning to try, it is also important to understand your physique before getting a sticky yoga mat. A frail and thin person might need a thicker mat and it should be considered. Sticky mats are now available in various forms and if one is concerned about the PVC (Polyvinyl chloride) used in the making of these mats, they can prefer eco-friendly yoga mats or rubber mats which do not pollute the environment. They are a bit expensive than the normal mats but it is worth investing in them.
